Finally Friends

It's a momentous occasion today because Dawson and Ander finally became friends with each other. Suzi and I wondered if this day would ever come because the two of them showed no interest in each other for quite a long time and then a few months ago Ander started acting scared of Dawson and tried to avoid him every time they were in the same room together.
Ander finally warmed up to Dawson today and they actually played together and followed each other around Suzi's house. Ander even let me share some of his macaroni and cheese with Dawson. We hope that this is the turning point in their relationship and that they decide to keep liking each other going forward. You can see from the pics that they had a lot of fun with each other...

Happy Birthday Stockton!

It was my nephew Stockton's 9th birthday yesterday so we were invited to celebrate at John & Cyd's house (my sister-in-law Becky's parents). Jon, Becky and their family are living with Becky's parents right now while their new home is being built. Scott was actually able to get off work early for once and go with me and Dawson to the party, which was great. We had yummy cake and ice cream and chatted with everyone while Stockton opened his presents. Dawson threw up all over himself right when we got there but luckily he was able to borrow some of Davis's clothes so he didn't have to hang out smelling like rotten milk all night. Scott and I had to watch him constantly because he was getting into everything, the little hoodlum. He can walk a few steps at a time now and he was very proud to show off his new skills to everyone. We had a great time, as we always do with Jon, Becky and their family. Stockton, we hope you had a super birthday and are glad we got to celebrate it with you!

Dawson is ONE!!

So our little Dawson turned one year old yesterday and we can't believe how quickly this past year has gone by. It's been so much fun to watch him grow and learn new things but I'm also a little sad to see him get older. He's not quite walking but he's able to stand for a few seconds at a time and he's also taken a couple of steps toward me, so I don't think it will be long now.
We took him to the zoo in the morning and he had a lot of fun watching the monkeys, giraffes, zebras and all of the other animals but he started getting tired after about an hour so we thought it would be best if we went home before he got too cranky. Scott and I took turns playing with him the rest of the afternoon while we got the house ready for his birthday party. We decided to do an open house from 6:30 to 8:00 pm so that people could come and go when they wanted. I sent out the invitations a couple of weeks ago and they turned out really cute (see top picture). The party also turned out really well and we had a lot of people show up to wish Dawson a happy birthday. We bought a chocolate cake from Costco with the words: "Happy Birthday Dawson - The fun has already begun!" on it. I also made him his own cake and it sure was fun to watch him eat it even though he quickly became covered with cake and frosting from head to toe. Scott and I gave him a bath and then brought him back downstairs to play with the kids who were still there. He was pretty hopped up on sugar from the cake so he was bouncing off the walls. The last people didn't leave the party until 9:30 and we were glad we had such a good turnout. Dawson got a lot of great toys, books and cute clothes and we sure appreciate all of the relatives, friends and neighbors who came to celebrate his birthday with us.

First Mother's Day

I had Dawson three days after Mother's Day last year so this Mother's Day was my first "official" one as a mom. Scott got up with Dawson and let me sleep in and then we all went to church together. Dawson didn't want to sit still (as usual) so Scott had to keep taking him out in the foyer so that he could crawl around. Scott took Dawson home after Sacrament meeting and I was able to enjoy Sunday School and Relief Society without having to manage my squirming, busy child.
We went for a walk on the Draper Parkway in the afternoon and then everyone took a nap but me (what's up with that???). I thought I was the one who was supposed to relax today but I guess Scott, Dawson and Zeus were tired from getting up early so that was okay. We ate leftover red beans and rice for dinner, which is one of Scott's and my favorite meals and tastes even better the day after it's made.
Scott also gave me a mother and child pendant from the Shane Company which I absolutely love. It's made of white gold and has a small diamond in it. It's kind of hard to see it clearly in the above picture but it's really pretty. All in all, it was a great day and I really enjoyed spending it with my husband and little son. I feel so lucky to finally be a mother because this is something I've always wanted to become. It's not the easiest job in the world, but I feel like it's definitely the most rewarding.

Updating Dawson's Room

We recently painted and re-decorated Dawson's room since Scott thought the decorations on the wall were not masculine enough for a boy's bedroom. He replaced the Noah's Ark animals with baseball, basketball, football and soccer decorations and it actually turned out really cute. Two of the walls were already a vivid blue color so we had the other two walls painted a medium tan color for a nice contrast. I guess we'll keep it this way until Scott gets sick of it and wants to make new changes. He's always wanting to update a different part of our house with a new look. I just go along with it because the changes he makes always turn out well.
We also had to take Dawson's mobile down and get rid of the bumper pads in his crib because he kept pulling the mobile off the crib (see top picture) and untying the bumper pads. His crib looks pretty plain now but at least it's safe for him.
